A good design elicits joy. This is more than pleasure, this is about using design to foster an ethical and emotional bond between humans and their things. The most ecologically sound object is an object that people care about.
Good designs grow from the roots, from revisiting base assumptions, from opening up to new possibilities. There are no successful microwave reheats.
People interact with objects visually, but also through touch. In my work, tactility is as important as form and appearance. Materials matter. Glass. Wood. The playfulness of paper. Metals, finely machined, or worked with rough character. Even in two-dimensional work, colors and patterns have a haptic quality.
My choices are informed by my knowledge of manufacturing history and industrial processes, as well as my perspective of seeing design much the same as I want others to see the finished object: As an opportunity for play.
